Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on PSP presents the action from a top-down perspective while you take control of one of the famous Autobots or Decepticons to shoot your way through 25 missions. Waves of enemies will be tossed your way as you blast through the streets, with driving and escort missions inserted to mix up the action. And, of course, many levels will be punctuated with some big boss battles.
The controls work pretty well. Hold down a button and you can start strafing. From there, you can use the shoulder buttons to rotate the Transformer to get the full range of motion. And though the emphasis isn’t all on transforming robots, you will be treated to the franchise’s signature moves during special attacks.
To get the highest scores, players will have to grab power-ups and — more importantly — keep an eye on their combo meter. Like any good arcade game, the high combos multipliers will go to those that can keep dispatching enemies in succession. It’s a very arcadey setup — one that Activision makes no apologies for. The design was made from the get go to be one that PSP players could get behind. The levels are fairly short and heavy on shooting to give players a quick dose of action while on the go.
There’s also a co-op mode where players can team up in ad-hoc mode and work together in a special shooting gallery mode. There’s not much to say about this one. Endless waves of enemy robots continue to stream from all sides and its up to the duo to shoot them before taking too much damage. I didn’t last long on my first try at this mode, though I did score over a million points. I’m not sure if that’s a good score or not, but it certainly is a big number.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game lets gamers step into the shoes of the AUTOBOTS or DECEPTICONS, select any available mission and pick from the largest, most diverse range of playable Transformers – each with their own distinct abilities and weaponry. Set in unique environments across the globe such as Cairo and Shanghai, the game allows players to instantly switch between vehicle and robot modes as they drive, fly, fight and blast their way through intense, pressure-packed levels. After engaging in single player action, players for the first time ever will be able to go online and battle friends in all-new multiplayer modes.
